I was born in Canada to parents who immigrated for Denmark in the early 60’s. I have been a little surprised by my connection to this country given that I have never lived there. I have been particularly drawn to and fascinated by, all things Viking. The mythology and imagery of the Vikings, the writing in Runes, and the strength of the Viking culture have all inspired this series. I have been contuing to work on the wooden cradle panels, carving the Runes and images into the surface , and then using oil to paint and stain the surface with my favourite palette of reds and golds. Looking for meaning in the symbols of a lost culture, allowing the imagery to meld with my distinctive sensibility as a painter, these paintings evoke the past while simultaneously placing it in the sensual space and time of the present.
